There's a child up against the wall with his hands up. He's:

a. looking where to hang a picture.
b. on the verge of crying, while being scolded in class.
c. drawing on the wall.

If you answered b, you ARE correct. This is one of the first things I've learned, since teaching here. This is the local way, without hitting, of punishing a child in class. Depending on the age, you either order them up, or pick them up and send them into the wall or corner. They then stand there, facing the wall, holding up their arms/hands, until you say otherwise. For most of them, this is a large embarrasment. They get tired. You continue teaching. It sounds harsh, but not really. It's pretty affective here. It gets the point across. Listen up/shut up/stop speaking corean or you'll be looking at the plaster, instead of the board. I only wish it were that easy in the states.
